She was pregnant… new in town and staying with her brother. Her boyfriend, the father of the baby, was living in another state. She couldn’t count on his help because of so many things, but especially his drinking and all the baggage that came with it.
Her mother had died of drug abuse, and this client had only met her father once, when she was very young. She felt like she had few options, no where to turn and no friends.
Care Net provided a free pregnancy test and an ultrasound along with our compassionate mentoring and Christ-centered care. We were delighted to be able to offer her the nurturing care she craved. And so it was that, following the ultrasound confirming her pregnancy, she decided to come into Care Net weekly for parent mentoring classes.
Our one-on-one mommy mentoring called “Earn While You Learn” allowed her to earn baby bucks to buy new things for her little one in our Baby Boutique. An experienced mom began to lead her through educational modules on a variety of subjects, from fetal development to baby proofing her home.
During the time we spent with her, she expressed confusion and regret about her choices in men. Because of her traumatic past and questions she had regarding healthy relationship formation our “Sexual Integrity” series was recommended to her. Again she was teamed up with a caring client advocate while she worked her way through the DVD series we use for developing healthy relationships. The “Sexual Integrity” program teaches about God’s plan for relationships, where to find true happiness, and why waiting for the right marriage partner was important. It includes many skill building tools for forming healthy relationships.
We were able to share about how God wanted to give her a new future that involved a relationship with Him. It was wonderful to share God’s plan of salvation with this young woman and see her embrace a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Since she had begun attending church but had no Bible we were delighted to be able to bless her with one.
Her faithful commitment to attend every scheduled session and complete her homework has blessed and encouraged all of us. Her story is one of many that you and I have ministered to together. I wish you could see the positive changes and choices that she's making because of the help provided through your faithful support.
